RECEPTION OF THE HONOURABLE MINISTER OF STATE FOR THE MINISTRY OF ENVIRONMENT ON MONDAY,
21ST AUGUST 2023 AT THE MINISTRY’S
HEADQUARTERS, MABUSHI
Introduction: The Directors of the Departments, Director Generals/CEO of Agencies, Projects Coordinators and some other dignitaries from the Ministry were all gathered 2:00pm at the front of the Ministry’s Headquarters building to officially receive the newly sworn-in Honourable Minister (State) Dr. Adebayo Adekunle Ishaq Salako. At 2:45pm, the Honourable Minister (State), accompanied by the Director, Pollution Control and Environmental Health, Mr. Charles Ikeah acting for the Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Ibrahim Yusufu Idris FCA arrived at the office.
The Acting Permanent Secretary introduced the Directors, the Director Generals as well as the Heads of Units who were present to the Honorable Minister (State). Thereafter, the Honorable Minister (State) was led to the Ministry’s Conference hall where he was formally received on behalf of the Management and Staff of the Ministry by the Acting Permanent Secretary.
REMARKS BY THE ACTING PERMANENT SECRETARY
The Director, Mr Charcles Ikeah, acting for Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Ibrahim Yusufu Idris, FCA after a formal introduction of the Ministry’s officials to the Honourable Minister (State), welcomed him to the Ministry of Environment. While congratulating the Honourable Minister (State) for his appointment, he pledged the unalloyed support of the management and staff of the Ministry to tackle the challenges of ensuring a sustainable environment during the tenure of the Honourable Minister (State).
RESPONSE BY THE HONOURABLE MINISTER OF STATE
The Honorable Minister (State) expressed his pleasure to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, for his appointment as a Minister in the Federal Republic of Nigeria with a population of over 200 million Nigerians. He went further to state that Nigeria is a gift to Africa hence her full potentials should be harnessed and managed properly for the good of all. This, he said, should be demonstrated in the Environment sector under his watch. He said that as a public health physician, he knows the importance of the Environment and the need to protect it. He, thereafter, called for the support of all Staff in order to achieve the mandate of the Ministry, stating that he will be counting on the Planning, Research & Statistics (PRS) Department particularly, the Research Division to provide research based evidence that can be the bases for reporting and evaluation of work done. Continuing, he charged the PRS department along with the others to further raise their bar of excellence in ensuring a sustainable environment.
He concluded by stating that he is open to advice and criticism, hence he encouraged the Staff to feel free to come to him and make their useful suggestions.
VOTE OF THANKS
The vote of thanks was given by the Director of Human Resources and Management. The Director thanked God for the appointment of the Honorable Minister (State) for the Ministry of Environment. He described the Honorable Minister (State) as a complete package because of his antecedent as a doctor, a lecturer, a radio presenter and much more. He added that the Honorable Minister’s (State) speech and disposition shows that he was fully prepared for the job. He concluded by thanking all who were present.
INTERACTIVE SESSION
The Honorable Minister (State) entertained some questions and in his response, he said that he will not close his doors to the media or the Staff Union. He reiterated the need for all hands to be on deck to make Nigeria environmental friendly to everybody.
The reception came to an end with a group picture of the Honourable Minister (State) with the Management at 3:20pm.
