Ms. Regina O. Nwaneri is a professional Land Resource Officer with over 30 years’ experience, she has served as member of several presidential committee and director in the federal Ministry of Environment for over 4 years. She holds a bachelor degree in Land Resource Management.
Department Of Desertification, Land Degradation And Drought Management
Overview
The Department of Desertification, Land Degradation and Drought Management (DLD&DM) was established to restore degraded landscapes across the country, combat desertification, increase nation forest cover, conserve natural resources in the country’s drylands, mitigate the effects of drought and climate change, collates and disseminate data that relate to the department’s mandate. It is the national focal point of The United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), African Forest Landscapes Restoration Initiative (AFR100), African Initiative for Combating Desertification (AI-CD) and others.
VISION: Restored landscapes that facilitate increased access to productive natural resources and sustainable ecosystem services.
MISSION: To combat desertification, land degradation and ensure rational utilization, conservation and sustainable management of natural resources of the dryland as well as effective management of drought in the country.
MANDATE:
- Prevention and control of desert encroachment;
- Ensuring rational utilization, management and conservation of natural resources in drylands as well as effective management of drought;
- Formulation, implementation and coordination of policies and projects relating to combating desertification and mitigating the effects of drought;
- Promotion of procedures for the reclamation and restoration of degraded lands; and
- Cooperation and collaboration with other countries and international organizations on matters relating to combating desertification and mitigating the effects of drought.
