HONOURABLE MINISTER OF STATE
Sharon started her Primary School Education at the St. Mary's Convent School Lagos, Secondary Schools at the Queen of the Rosary College Onitsha, the Godolphin School Salisbury England then for Higher Studies at the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria. She obtained her Bachelor of Law (LL.B Hons.) from the University of Benin and Certificate of Practice from the Nigerian Law School in 1985.
With over thirty (30) years Post-Graduation experience as a Legal Practitioner, Politician, Management Consultant, Philanthropist, Social activist. Sharon has had the opportunity to be involved in several start-up and re-organizational projects for both foreign and local companies as well as in Banking/Corporate Finance, Administration/Legal/HR and project monitoring fields providing her with in-depth knowledge of business development for Foreign Multinationals as well as National and International Government Liaison, Contract Development and Project Management.
In 2011, she contested and won the position of National Women Leader of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) an opposition Political Party. As National Women Leader, She partnered with the International Republican Institute (IRI), National Democratic Institute (NDI), UN Women and the UNDP in capacity building and training of Women in Leadership and Political roles in Nigeria. With the merger of the three Political Parties in Nigeria in 2013, She emerged the Interim National Women Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) thereafter was appointed to the Board of Trustees of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2014.
During her tenure as the APC National Women Leader, she established the APC Young Women’s Forum (APC-YWF) to mentor and sponsor young female politicians and she continues to organize and participate in leadership, training and mentoring of young women in politics.
Sharon runs a prison outreach program that pays the fines of awaiting trial persons and also undertakes free legal representation for inmates. She also founded an NGO - The Wakiliyan Matta Empowerment Initiative for the internally displaced women, who are given back their dignity by disbursement of interest-free loans to start small scale businesses. As a firm believer and advocate for the girl-child education, she continues to sponsor a number of girls through primary, secondary and tertiary education.
She currently serves as the Vice President of Women in Politics Forum (WIPF) which she co-founded to build the capacity of female politicians across political lines.
Sharon was appointed as the Executive Secretary of the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, on the 26th of September, 2016. In her short stint at PTAD she transformed the agency and restored hope to pension administration under the Defined Benefit Scheme in Nigeria. This earned her the moniker ”Mama Pension” among Nigeria’s teaming pensioners.
In August 2019 she was appointed Minister of State Environment by President Buhari.
She holds the chieftaincy title of Ada Igbo Ji Ejemba of Aba, Abia State, the Garkuwan Mata of Mayo Farang, Adamawa State.
Sharon is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Mediators and Conciliators of Nigeria and a member of Nigerian Bar Association.
